How long state lemon laws protect a Jeep
With 3 years / 36,000 miles of basic coverage, your Jeep’s warranty usually outlasts its lemon law window. A two-year state closes the window with 1 year of warranty to go; a one-year state, with 2 years. Repairs in that gap are free, but they rarely count toward a buyback.
| State window | Jurisdictions | Jeep basic warranty at that point |
|---|---|---|
| The warranty term | New Hampshire, Vermont | Window lasts the full 3 years / 36,000 miles |
| Three years | 1 | about the same time the basic warranty ends |
| Two years | 21 | 1 year of basic coverage still left |
| 18 months | 3 | 18 months of basic coverage still left |
| One year | 23 | 2 years of basic coverage still left |
Many windows also stop at 12,000 to 24,000 miles, long before the 36,000-mile limit on a Jeep warranty. Find your state’s exact rule in our state guides, or check your Jeep repair history against your state’s window.
Jeep’s dispute program
FCA US offers a free, non-binding Customer Arbitration Process in all 50 states, run by the National Center for Dispute Settlement (NCDS). The booklet says it normally takes no longer than 40 days. You can write to NCDS, FCA US LLC Customer Arbitration Process, P.O. Box 515315, Dallas, TX 75251-5315.
The booklet also asks for something many owners miss: where your state’s law allows it, FCA US requires written notice of the problem before you are eligible for lemon law remedies, so it gets a chance to repair. In other states it asks for written notice anyway. Send it, and keep proof.
Jeep’s arbitration clause
The 2025 booklet contains a binding arbitration provision: either you or FCA US may choose binding arbitration instead of court for a dispute, though you can still take an individual dispute to small claims court. It does not stop you from using FCA’s non-binding NCDS program or a state-run arbitration program.
You can opt out within 30 days of taking delivery and signing the Arbitration Acknowledgment Form at the dealer. Send a letter with your name, VIN and intent to opt out to FCA US LLC Office of the General Counsel, 1000 Chrysler Drive, CIMS 485-13-62, Auburn Hills, MI 48326-2766.

Things Jeep owners should know
- If you bought within the last 30 days, decide now whether to opt out of binding arbitration. After that, the provision is binding.
- Aftermarket lift kits and tires, racing and off-road damage can lead to a warranty denial. Keep the vehicle as delivered while a defect is open, and get any refusal in writing.
- A 4xe battery problem is covered by its own, longer battery warranty, but the lemon law clock still runs from your delivery date.
What to do if your Jeep is a lemon
- Within 30 days of delivery, decide on the arbitration opt-out and, if you want out, mail the letter to FCA US’s Office of the General Counsel.
- At every dealer visit, make sure the repair order records the mileage, your complaint word for word and the days your Jeep sat in the shop.
- Write to FCA US about the defect. The booklet says FCA requires that notice before lemon law remedies where your state allows it, so use our notice letter generator and keep the mailing receipt.
- If you want a free, non-binding decision, file with the FCA US Customer Arbitration Process at NCDS. You can reject the result.
- Go to your state’s program or court before your deadline; your state’s page has the date rule.
